Baudouin Stage V Engines: High Performance and Environmental Compliance
Stage V engines are at the heart of European efforts to reduce pollutant emissions from non-road mobile machinery and inland waterway vessels, guided by stringent European Union standards. They represent a significant step forward in emission reduction, enhancing air quality across industries.
A comprehensive understanding of Stage V engines
What is a Stage V engine?
Stage V engines is designed to meet the most stringent emissions standards set out in European Directive 2016/1628/EC. These engines are manufactured to drastically reduce emissions of:
- Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
- Carbon monoxide (CO)
- Hydrocarbons (HC)
- Particulate matter (PM)
- Particulate number (PN)
Requirements for Stage V engines
To comply with Stage V, engines must meet specific emission limits for the listed pollutants. Manufacturers must use advanced technologies such as SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) to meet these requirements.
Impact of Stage V regulations on industries
The implementation of Stage V regulations is having a considerable impact on a number of industries:
Agriculture
Tractors and other agricultural equipment must now use Stage V-compliant engines, reducing their environmental impact.
Construction
Construction machinery such as excavators and bulldozers must also comply with these standards, contributing to a cleaner working environment.
Energy
Mobile generators must be fitted with Stage V engines to reduce emissions in temporary or mobile use.
Inland Waterway
Engines in pleasure craft, commercial vessels, and inland waterway boats must meet Stage V standards to reduce emissions and improve air and water quality.
Advantages of Stage V engines
Stage V engines offer a number of benefits.
The reduction of emissions has been demonstrated to result in a significant decrease in the levels of NOx, CO, HC, and PM, which collectively contribute to an improvement in air quality and a healthier environment, enhancing the overall quality of life.
Regulatory compliance ensures that companies meet European regulations and avoid penalties. Furthermore, the technologies employed to achieve Stage V standards frequently result in enhanced energy efficiency of engines, which in turn leads to reduced fuel costs.
Technologies used in Stage V engines
In order to comply with the stipulations of Stage V, engines have been equipped with a number of sophisticated technologies. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) employs a reducing agent to transform nitrogen oxides into nitrogen and water, thereby effectively reducing NOx emissions. Diesel particulate filters (DPFs) trap fine particles in the exhaust gases, preventing their release into the atmosphere.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) reduces combustion temperatures by recirculating a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine cylinder, thereby reducing NOx emissions. Furthermore, direct injection and advanced electronic controls facilitate optimal fuel combustion, thereby minimising emissions and maximising engine efficiency.

Stage V rental and mobile power generations engines
We are proud to announce that we have developed and are now the only company to offer a dedicated 1MW rental engine that can be fitted into a 20″ container. Unlike existing solutions, which require 2 x 500kWe engines in a container, our innovative design provides a more efficient and powerful option.
Our engines, including the 6M33 and 12M33 models, deliver peak power from 500kWe to 1MWe, meeting the most demanding operational requirements. Additionally, we achieve these standards with a very compact SCR and without the need for a DPF, ensuring compliance with Stage V requirements for power generation engines in mobile and rental applications.
These engines can:
– Reduce NOx by up to 92%
– Reduce particulates by up to 78%
– Reduce emissions by up to 98%
Baudouin Stage V for industrial power
In addition to our power generation solutions, we have developed a range of industrial engines solutions, that meet stringent emission standards, ensuring superior performance, efficiency, and reliability. Our upcoming 4M12 industrial engine, available in Stage V, utilizes advanced SCR, DOC, and DPF.
We prioritize compliance with the most stringent standards for our industrial engines. This ensures optimal performance and regulatory compliance in various industrial applications, including construction, public works, and agriculture.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce the development of a comprehensive range of industrial engines, spanning from 35kW to 560kW. These engines will soon be available to meet the diverse needs of industrial applications, continuing our commitment to innovation and excellence.
