Baudouin Marine Power for Pelican Marvel

Penguin International Limited, a publicly listed leader on the Singapore Exchange and one of the world’s foremost builders of high-speed aluminium crewboats and armoured security vessels, has launched the Pelican Marvel, the flagship of its new hybrid mFlex-42 series.

Built at Penguin’s Singapore shipyard, this 42-metre multi-role vessel is powered by three Baudouin 12M26.3 marine propulsion engines and two Baudouin 6W105S gensets.

This complete Baudouin marine power package provides robust propulsion, reliable auxiliary power and seamless integration into the vessel’s Hybrid Lite shaft-generator system.

Class-approved by Bureau Veritas and equipped with gyro stabilisation for improved ride comfort, Pelican Marvel is designed for extended offshore crew transfers, security operations and search and rescue missions.

With a top speed of 30 knots and a range of 700 nautical miles, the vessel is capable of performing in demanding offshore conditions, including monsoon environments.

The vessel also features a distinctive pink hull and engine room, reflecting Penguin’s innovative identity and unique vessel branding. A second mFlex-42 hull is already under construction, reinforcing Penguin’s confidence in Baudouin’s end-to-end propulsion and auxiliary power solutions.

The Pelican Marvel is powered by three Baudouin 12M26.3 marine propulsion engines and two Baudouin 6W105S gensets.

This configuration provides a complete marine power solution covering main propulsion, onboard auxiliary power and hybrid system integration.

Baudouin’s engines are IMO Tier II compliant, with optional Tier III upgrades, and are compatible with biofuels such as HVO. They are also supported by a global service and spare parts network covering more than 130 countries.

audouin’s 12M26.3 engines are purpose-built for demanding high-speed crewboat applications.

These 31.8-litre V12 engines are rated at 1214 kW at 2300 rpm under P2 Heavy Duty classification.

They feature advanced common-rail fuel injection at 2200 bar, high-efficiency turbochargers and a dual-circuit cooling system to support strong performance and fuel economy.

Their square 150 x 150 mm bore and stroke configuration delivers high torque and durability, while marine-grade components such as individual cylinder heads, wet liners and large inspection hatches support easier maintenance and long MTBO intervals.

Complementing the main propulsion engines, the Baudouin 6W105S generator sets provide reliable ship service power.

These inline 6-cylinder, 7-litre gensets deliver 120 kWe at 1500 rpm and share the same engineering philosophy as Baudouin’s marine propulsion range.

They feature electronic common-rail injection, turbocharging and modular construction for easier servicing.

Optimized for hybrid systems, the gensets operate efficiently under varying loads, activating only when battery or shaft-generator power is insufficient. This supports better energy management, extends service life and improves overall vessel efficiency.

Pelican Marvel is the flagship of Penguin’s new mFlex-42 series, designed for multi-role offshore operations.

The vessel supports crew transfer, offshore security and search and rescue missions, while maintaining the speed, range and reliability required for demanding offshore deployment.

Its Hybrid Lite shaft-generator system enables more flexible power management, while Baudouin’s propulsion and genset package ensures consistent performance across different operating profiles.

This end-to-end solution reflects Baudouin’s strength in supplying modern workboats with scalable, emissions-compliant marine engine technology.

For operators working in offshore and remote environments, service support is a critical part of the power solution.

Baudouin’s global support network spans more than 130 countries, with certified distributors, regional spare parts availability and trained technical teams.

This gives operators such as Penguin access to reduced downtime, lifecycle support and field maintenance resources. Illustrated parts manuals and digital monitoring also help streamline maintenance operations.

With a second mFlex-42 vessel already under construction using the same power configuration, this project confirms the trust placed in Baudouin’s complete marine engine range.

As the offshore sector moves toward hybridization and sustainability, Baudouin remains a key enabler of reliable, future-ready marine operations.
