Reliable Backup Power for Critical Data Centre Operations

Bytesnet, a leading Dutch provider of data center services, operates with high standards to meet critical ISO certifications, ensuring trust, compliance, and efficiency for its clients. Located in Groningen (Netherlands), Bytesnet requires a reliable backup power system to guarantee uninterrupted operations for its essential infrastructure.

To achieve this, they partnered with Abato Motoren, who selected Baudouin for its proven expertise in delivering dependable and efficient power solutions tailored to critical applications like data centers. This collaboration ensured Bytesnet’s operations would remain uninterrupted during power outages, maintaining its reputation for reliability and service excellence.

To address Bytesnet’s high power needs and ensure business continuity during grid failures, Abato Motoren designed and delivered an advanced emergency power system. Two custom-built generator sets powered by Baudouin’s 16M33G2250/5 engines were installed, providing 1900 kVA each. These engines, part of Baudouin’s PowerKit range, are specially designed for Emergency Standby Power (ESP), offering robust performance for short-term, high-demand applications essential for data centre operations.

Baudouin’s PowerKit engines are recognized for their high-power density, efficiency, and resilience. The 16M33 platform features a V-16-cylinder arrangement, turbocharged aspiration with air-to-water cooling, and high-pressure common rail fuel systems. These characteristics ensure consistent power delivery during grid interruptions.

Each generator set was housed in a 30 FT High Cube container equipped with silencers to meet a noise level of 85 dB(A) at 1 meter and supported by external table-top coolers to maintain optimal engine performance. A 10,000-liter fuel tank with an automatic filtration system ensures continuous, clean fuel supply, minimizing downtime during critical operations. The entire system is controlled using Woodward EasyGen 3000XT controllers for seamless integration and efficient management.

The project was successfully completed on schedule, with both generator sets installed, tested, and seamlessly integrated into Bytesnet’s power infrastructure. The result is a highly reliable emergency power solution that ensures uninterrupted service delivery, boosting Bytesnet’s client confidence and operational stability. This collaboration between Bytesnet, Abato Motoren, and Baudouin highlights the adaptability and performance of PowerKit engines in addressing the unique demands of the data center industry.
