Baudouin Marine Propulsion for AXOS

The AXOS Project (Hull ER178 / Drafter 2400) represents a new-generation 24-metre conventional firefighting tugboat, commissioned by SEKAVIN S.A. and constructed at Med Marine Ereğli Shipyard.

Currently stationed in Greece, AXOS provides continuous, high-performance operational support at the Motor Oil Refinery in Agioi Theodoroi, Corinth. Operating in a mission-critical industrial environment, the vessel plays an essential role in supporting refinery maritime activities, assisting vessel movements and providing firefighting capabilities when required.

In such demanding conditions, vessel availability, manoeuvrability and power reliability are critical to ensuring safe and efficient operations. Built under the supervision of RINA Classification Society, AXOS meets internationally recognised standards for safety, structural integrity and operational performance.

Measuring 24 metres in length, 11 metres in breadth and 4.30 metres in depth, the vessel has a gross tonnage of 304 and accommodates a crew of six. With a 40-tonne bollard pull and a speed of 10 knots, AXOS combines strong towing capabilities with the manoeuvrability required for harbour assistance and emergency response operations.

To meet these demanding operational requirements, Baudouin supplied a complete marine power solution combining two 16M33 propulsion engines, two 6W105S service generator sets and one 4W105S harbour generator. This integrated configuration provides dependable propulsion and onboard electrical power, supporting the vessel’s essential systems during both navigation and harbour operations.

At the heart of AXOS are two Baudouin 16M33 marine propulsion engines, each delivering 1,287 kW at 1,600 rpm. Designed for demanding tugboat engines applications, these engines provide the high power density, responsiveness and long-term reliability required for towing, manoeuvring and emergency operations.

Onboard electrical power is supplied by two Baudouin 6W105S marine gensets, each rated at 99 kWe, 50 Hz Prime Power, complemented by a dedicated 4W105S harbour genset delivering 56 kWe, 50 Hz Prime Power. Together, these systems provide reliable electrical power for essential onboard equipment, including navigation, safety and firefighting systems.

By integrating propulsion and auxiliary power generation within a single marine package, Baudouin delivers a comprehensive solution designed to ensure operational reliability, efficient maintenance and long-term performance in mission-critical maritime environments.

The project was initiated in January 2025, with a contractual delivery target of April 2026, and was successfully completed within the agreed timeline. As SEKAVIN’s first integration of Baudouin propulsion systems, the project required close coordination throughout engineering, installation and commissioning, supported by the technical expertise of Baudouin and its partner Xanthis S.A.

During rigorous sea trials, the Baudouin engines demonstrated strong power output, reliable performance and robust construction, confirming their suitability for demanding marine operations. SEKAVIN expressed its satisfaction with both the machinery’s performance and the comprehensive technical and logistical support provided throughout the project.
