Reliable Power for Harsh Offshore Conditions
As offshore oil and gas operations continue to push the limits of technology and endurance, reliable onboard power systems have become increasingly critical.
This need does not only apply to drilling operations. It also extends to the support platforms that keep offshore crews, accommodation facilities, maintenance systems and logistics running efficiently.
In Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, Baudouin marine gensets are helping meet this challenge on four jack-up barges operating alongside major offshore drilling platforms.
Four jack-up barges are deployed in one of the world’s most strategic offshore oil and gas regions.
These barges support Aramco’s offshore ecosystem by providing accommodation, maintenance facilities, power infrastructure and logistical support for crews working near offshore drilling platforms.
With offshore activity continuing to grow in the Gulf region, demand for dependable power solutions has increased, especially in the jack-up barge and offshore support segment.
To meet the project’s requirements, eight Baudouin 12M26.3S marine gensets were delivered through Jana Marine.
Two gensets were installed on each of the four jack-up barges.
Each Baudouin 12M26.3S genset is rated at 880 kWe at 60 Hz and is ABS-classed for marine use. This makes the solution suitable for offshore applications where certification, reliability and long-term operational performance are essential.
Operating in a marine environment with high temperatures, high humidity and continuous duty requirements places significant stress on power equipment.
For Aramco’s support barges, the power systems must operate reliably around the clock. They support both mission-critical functions and comfort-related systems for offshore crews.
The operator required a power solution that could deliver class-certified marine performance, robust operation in harsh offshore conditions, fuel efficiency, low maintenance requirements and responsive technical support.
To ensure full compliance with Aramco’s specific technical requirements, Baudouin’s Marine Project Management department played a central role in engineering the solution.
Their involvement enabled key technical customizations, including the integration of a specific alternator configuration designed to meet the project’s operational and certification standards.
This approach ensured that the gensets were not only suitable for marine use, but also adapted to the specific constraints of offshore jack-up barge operations.
While minor commissioning adjustments were required during the early stages of deployment, Baudouin’s local technical team responded quickly and effectively.
This demonstrated one of Baudouin’s key strengths: fast, expert field support that helps minimize downtime and reinforce long-term customer trust.
