Reliable Backup Power for a High-Demand Data Centre
Baudouin’s DCP-rated PowerKit engines have been installed at a new data center in Italy, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply is maintained for one of the world’s leading search engines. Tendered in 2021, this project was installed in association with Ausonia, an Italian genset partner. The data centre is now fully operational from 2022, with the option for expansion in 2023.
They might not know it, but as millions of Europeans are using this search engine on their computers and devices, their internet searches are being powered by Baudouin.
As an in-demand data center used around the clock, 365 days a year, a large amount of power is needed to serve the vast quantities of information produced and exchanged every second. Not just for the servers and IT equipment, but the cooling systems too. Downtime is not an option in this setup, and a reliable and robust power solution was needed.
Installed in 2022, this particular data centre now is now running on a combination of Baudouin’s DCP-rated PowerKit gensets. Eight units are in the first part of the setup, containerized for sound insulation. This ensures quieter operation down to 65 dB. There are a further pair of PowerKit DCP gensets for internal installation.
Dual starters have also been used in all the PowerKit gensets for increased redundancy, in conjunction with remote radiators supplied by the OEM. PowerKit was chosen for several reasons. They are robust and reliable for secure power provision. We were also able to deliver the units quickly, and at a price the client was happy with.
This combination of fast delivery and installation was the winning formula.
As standard, PowerKit engines are also backed by market-leading warranty terms of two years with unlimited working hours, something competitor manufacturers couldn’t match.
In addition, the client has full aftercare and technical support from Baudouin to ensure the data center enjoys uninterrupted power around the clock.
