Reliable Backup Power for Critical Healthcare Operations
A Baudouin PowerKit engine powered standby generator has been installed at one of Spain’s leading cancer hospitals, ensuring this life-saving institution will stay up and running.
A bespoke installation was required to integrate with the hospital’s existing genset setup. The Catalan Institute of Oncology is one of Spain’s top specialized cancer units, based at the Duran i Reynals Hospital in Barcelona.
The hospital’s mission is to reduce the impact of cancer across this region of the country.
To ensure the hospital can continue its high-priority work, Baudouin was chosen by local partner Electra Molins to replace and install a new genset. Baudouin and Electra Molins have previously collaborated on numerous projects in this sector, demonstrating
proven experience and reliability.

This was not a standard off-the-shelf installation. Over many years, the hospital had installed two synchronized gensets from another manufacturer, and one was already out of order. Electra Molins had to parallelize a new genset alongside an old 30-year-old unit from a different engine brand.
This presented several challenges, but ones that the Baudouin and Electra Molins team was able to overcome. Mechanically, the main challenge was to adapt the powerful Baudouin engine to the existing space and distribution.
The collaboration between the technical and engineering departments of Baudouin and Electra Molins managed to change the old electronic system used by the older engine, and to adapt the alternator to a modern synchronizing module control.
There were other competitive advantages that Baudouin had over the competition too. Our partner Electra Molins had experience with the M33 platform and this engine and understood the simplicity of governing the electronic synchronization system. They also knew they could rely on a turnkey offering and, of course, the long-term warranty all made Baudouin superior.
Baudouin quickly and efficiently delivered a bespoke solution to meet this important client’s specific needs, with the new system fully up and running by March 2023.
